Crash Unlocking

If a crash occurs that triggers deployment of the airbags, the door modules will unlock the doors. The door modules and the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) are informed of the crash by a hardwired event notification signal. The signal is provided by the Restraints Control Module (RCM).

When the door modules receive the event notification signal from the RCM, the door modules repeatedly drive all door latches to the unlocked state for a period of 3 seconds.

A event notification signal is also sent from the RCM to the BCM/GWM via the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) chassis systems bus. The BCM/GWM relays this signal over the HS CAN body systems bus to the door modules by sending a crash unlock command.
