Central Door Locking

NOTE: The smart key may not be detected if it is placed within a metal container or if it is shielded by a device with a back-lit Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen. For example a smart phone, a laptop (including when inside a laptop bag), games console.

When the Radio Frequency (RF) receiver detects a signal from the smart key, it relays the information on the serial communication line to the Remote Function Actuator (RFA). The RFA checks to make sure that the signal is from a valid smart key. If the signal is valid the RFA transmits the request to the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) on the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) body systems bus.

If the request is to open the luggage compartment, the BCM/GWM operates the motor in the luggage compartment lid latch, to release the lid. If the vehicle alarm system was armed prior to the lid opening, it remains active while the luggage compartment is open. The intrusion and inclination sensing functions (if equipped and activated) are inhibited until the lid is closed. The perimeter sensing for the doors and the hood remains active. The vehicle alarm system re-arms to its previous state when the luggage compartment lid is fully closed.

If the request is to exterior lock/unlock the vehicle, the BCM/GWM sends a lock/unlock command to the door modules on the HS CAN body systems bus. The door modules then lock or unlock the door latches appropriately.

To confirm operation of an exterior single lock request, the BCM/GWM flashes the turn signal indicators once when it locks the vehicle.

To confirm operation of an exterior double lock request, the BCM/GWM flashes the turn signal indicators twice. There is a short flash for single lock, followed by a long flash (1 second) for double lock.

To confirm operation of an unlock request, the BCM/GWM flashes the turn signal indicators twice. There is a short flash, followed by another short flash.

If a door, the luggage compartment lid or the hood is ajar when an attempt to lock the vehicle is made, an error tone is emitted. The doors will not be locked and access to the luggage compartment will remain enabled.

If a smart key is left inside the passenger compartment or the luggage compartment and the vehicle is exterior locked via another smart key, the smart key left inside the vehicle will be disabled from passively starting the engine. Passive locking functions shall also be disabled.

If a smart key is left inside the passenger compartment or the luggage compartment and the vehicle is exterior locked via another smart key, an audible warning will sound and the luggage compartment will re-open after 3 seconds.

Depending on vehicle specification, the following functions offered by the CDL system:

Single point entry or multi point entry operating modes - To change the entry mode, simultaneously press the lock and unlock buttons on the smart key for 3 seconds. The turn signal indicators will flash twice to confirm the change. The feature can also be achieved using the Vehicle setup menu in the Instrument Cluster (IC).
Double locking the doors from outside the vehicle if the lock switch on the smart key is pressed twice within 3 seconds.
Double lock audible confirmation signal - An audible confirmation to confirm to the user that the vehicle has double locked. This feature can be enabled/disabled using the Vehicle setup menu in the IC.
Automatic re-locking of doors after 40 seconds - If the vehicle is exterior locked and subsequently unlocked and no aperture has been opened, the vehicle will auto re-lock to single lock. The vehicle alarm system will be armed.
Drive away door locking - This feature locks the doors at a set vehicle speed (8/16/32 km/h (5/10/20 mph)). The feature can be enabled/disabled using the Vehicle setup menu in the IC.

The vehicle can be centrally locked and unlocked from inside using the interior lock/unlock switches. Use of the interior lock/unlock switches will override the drive away locking feature for the rest of a journey. If a door is unlocked and opened, both doors will relock when the open door is subsequently closed.

When the vehicle is fully unlocked, the luggage compartment lid can be opened using the interior and exterior release switches. For the exterior luggage compartment lid release switch to operate, the transmission must be in PARK.
