Fuel Tank - Project 8 (G2244174): Removal

WARNING:
This procedure involves fuel handling. Be prepared for fuel spillage at all times and always observe fuel handling precautions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all components must be sealed.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions when doing any repairs to the fuel system.

- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
- Drain the fuel tank.
Refer to: FUEL TANK DRAINING
- Remove the driveshaft.
Remove the 2 bolts and the heatshield.

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Move the heatshield away from the fuel tank.
- Disconnect the fuel filler pipe from the fuel tank.
Remove the 12 bolts and the 2 rear undershields.
Remove the 5 nuts and the fuel tank shield.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the nut.
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Reposition the left side undershield as illustrated.

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Disconnect the fuel delivery line.
- Disconnect the fuel return line.

NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Using a suitable stand support the fuel tank assembly.
General Equipment: Transmission jack
- Remove the 4 bolts and the nut.
- Slightly lower the fuel tank assembly.
- Disconnect the 2 fuel lines and the 2 electrical connectors.
- Release the 2 fuel lines from the 3 clips.
- Using a suitable stand support the fuel tank assembly.
Using the special tool remove the locking ring.
Special Tool(s): 310-123
Disconnect the 2 fuel pipes and the electrical connector.
- Remove the fuel pump and sender unit.
- Inspect the O-ring seal and replace if damaged or worn.
