Fuel Level Sensors
The 2 fuel level sensors are used to measure the amount of fuel remaining in the left and right sides of the fuel tank. The 'B' fuel level sensor is attached to the fuel tank internal bracket. The 'A' fuel level sensor is attached to the outside of the fuel pump swirl pot. Both sensors are connected to the vehicle wiring harness via the external electrical connector on the fuel pump module top flange assembly.
The fuel level sensor signals are transmitted by a hardwired connection to the BCM/GWM. These signals are converted into High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) comfort system bus messages. The messages are used by the Instrument Cluster (IC) to display the remaining fuel level and low fuel warning. The BCM/GWM messages are monitored by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to store Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). The PCM uses the measured value for misfire detection when the fuel level is below a predetermined capacity.
North American Specification (NAS) market vehicles have a Diagnostic Module Tank Leakage (DMTL) pump for leak detection requirements which have additional connections, hoses and pipes. For additional information, Refer to: EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS
