Rear HALFSHAFT - Project 8 (G2258095): Removal

CAUTION:
- Do not touch the gaiter and when handling the halfshaft make sure that the gaiters does not touch any sharp component or object.
- When handling the halfshaft, do not articulate the Constant Velocity joint (CV). Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the CV and gaiter.
- Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains illustrations for right side components, left side components are similar.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

- Drain the rear differential.

- Remove the wheel and tire.

CAUTION: Do not use air or power tools to remove or install the halfshaft nut.
- Apply the foot brake.
- Remove and discard the halfshaft nut.
Remove the brake pad spring clip.
- Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor.
- Remove the 2 grommets.
- Disconnect electrical connector from the Electric Park Brake (EPB).
- Remove the clip.

CAUTION: Make sure that the brake hose does not support the full weight of the brake caliper assembly.
- Remove the 2 dust caps.
- Remove the 2 caliper guide pins.
- Use a suitable cable tie to support the brake caliper.
General Equipment: Cable ties
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the wheel speed sensor.
- Remove the 6 grommets.
- Remove the wiring harness from the clip.
- Remove the bolt.
- Release the height sensor link from the lower control arm.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the brake duct.
Use a suitable stand to support the lower control arm.
General Equipment: Transmission jack
- Remove and discard the nut.
- Reposition the stabilizer bar link from the lower arm.

CAUTION: As the halfshaft is still installed extra care must be taken when loosening the upper control arm nut and bolt. Failure to follow this instruction might disassemble or damage the CV or the CV boot.
- Remove and discard the upper control arm to wheel knuckle nut and bolt.
- Remove and discard the integral link nuts and bolts.

CAUTION: As the halfshaft is still installed extra care must be taken when removing the lower control arm nut and bolt. Failure to follow this instruction might disassemble or damage the CV or the CV boot.
Remove and discard the lower control arm to wheel knuckle nut and bolt.
Remove and discard the lower tie-rod to wheel knuckle nut and bolt.

CAUTION:
- Take extra care when handling the assembly. Failure to follow this instruction might result in damage to the CV or the CV boot.
- Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the wheel knuckle assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
Use the special tool to release the halfshaft from the wheel knuckle.
Special Tool(s): 205-857

CAUTION:
- Take extra care when removing the halfshaft. Failure to follow this instruction might result in damage to the CV or the CV boot.
- Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the seal.
Remove the halfshaft from the rear differential as illustrated.
Remove and discard the circlip from the halfshaft.
