Rear Drive Axle And Differential - Project 8 (G2231193): Overview
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jaguar XE and 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The rear differential has two functions:
- To convert the 'angle of drive' through 90° and distribute drive, via the rear drive halfshafts, to the rear wheels.
- To compensate for differences in the rotational speeds of the vehicle's rear wheels during cornering.
The vehicle is equipped with a Electronic Torque Manager (ETM) rear differential. The final drive ratio is 2.73:1.
The ETM rear differential has an individual oil cooling system, which provides oil at the optimum temperature when the ETM rear differential operates.
The ETM rear differential is attached to the rear subframe at 4 mounting points. Each mounting point incorporates an insulator to reduce Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH). The insulators in the forward mounting points are installed in the differential housing. The insulators in the rear mounting points are installed in the rear subframe.
