Electric Torque Manager Differential Cooling

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jaguar XE and 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Operation of the differential oil pump is controlled by the Rear Differential Control Module (RDCM). The RDCM monitors the differential oil temperature in the Electric Torque Manager (ETM) differential.

If the oil temperature rises above the set threshold, the RDCM sends a message to the Chassis Control Module (CHCM). The message is sent via the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) chassis systems bus. Then the CHCM activates the relay in the Rear Junction Box (RJB), which in turn supplies power for the differential oil pump.

The differential oil pump is activated for 5 seconds, during the engine start. If the vehicle speed is above 30 km/h (19 mph) and the differential oil temperature is above 100°C (212 °F) the differential oil pump is switched ON. The differential oil pump remains active until the differential oil temperature drops below 80°C (176 °F) and no further activation signal is received from the RDCM within 30 seconds.
