Pinpoint Test D: Fluid Condition Tests
- D1: FLUID CONDITION TEST 1
- Drain a sample of fluid from the transfer case
- Check the fluid for solid particles
Are any solid particles present in the transfer case fluid?
Yes: Drain all oil from the transfer case and refill with new fresh oil to the correct specification. Refer to: TRANSFER CASE DRAINING AND FILLING Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment complete routine - All wheel drive - pump venting. Drive the vehicle for at least 2km consisting of various corners at different speeds, including throttle applied and deceleration when cornering. Emulate parking maneuvers by using full steering wheel rotation slowly. Re evaluate the vehicle and test. Go to D4.
No: GO to D2.
- D2: FLUID CONDITION TEST 2
- Compare the fluid sample to some new transfer case fluid
Does the fluid sample appear burnt?
Yes: Drain all oil from the transfer case and refill with new fresh oil to the correct specification. Refer to: TRANSFER CASE DRAINING AND FILLING Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment complete routine - All wheel drive - pump venting. No: GO to D3.
- D3: FLUID CONDITION TEST 3
- Check the fluid for water content.
- Heat up the fluid sample to 100°C
- Check the fluid for bubbles
Are bubbles present in the fluid?
Yes: Drain all oil from the transfer case and refill with new fresh oil to the correct specification. Refer to: TRANSFER CASE DRAINING AND FILLING Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment complete routine - All wheel drive - pump venting. No: No fault found
- D4: FLUID CONDITION TEST 4
- Complete a full drive cycle of the vehicle following a complete drain and refill of the transfer case including parking maneuvers and engagement and disengagement of the transfer case
- When complete, perform a test drive to check for customer concern
Is the customer concern still present?
Yes: Make sure all other driveline components are functioning well and not at fault. Raise a prior approval request for a new transfer case. Attach evidence of your findings to the prior approval request. A transfer case prior approval request will not be approved without evidence of the pinpoint test being completed.
No: Repair is complete
