Rear SUBFRAME - Project 8 (G2248720): Removal
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Raise and support the vehicle using a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Remove the rear brake pads.
Refer to: BRAKE PADS
- Drain the fuel tank.
Refer to: FUEL TANK DRAINING
- Remove the front silencer.
Refer to: FRONT SILENCER
- Remove the rear right wheel arch liner.
Refer to: REAR WHEEL ARCH LINER - PROJECT 8
- Drain the rear differential.
Refer to: DIFFERENTIAL DRAINING AND FILLING VEHICLES WITH HEAVY DUTY DIFFERENTIAL

WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
Disconnect the 2 rear differential oil cooler hoses.
- Remove the nut and bolt.

Disconnect the electrical connector and release the retaining clip.

NOTE: Repeat the step for the other side.
Remove and discard the shock absorber lower nut and bolt.
Remove the 2 bolts and heatshield.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
Disconnect the fuel filler pipe from the fuel tank.
Mark the position of the driveshaft in relation to the rear drive axle flange.

CAUTION: Make sure that the driveshaft is supported with suitable retaining straps.
Remove the 6 bolts from the driveshaft.
To aid installation, use a straight edge to mark the position of the subframe in relation to the body at the points shown.
Remove and discard the 8 subframe to body mounting bolts.

WARNING: Make sure the rear subframe is supported using a suitable stand and retaining straps.NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
Remove and discard the 4 bolts and lower the subframe using a suitable stand.
Remove the rear springs.
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.
- Release the 8 grommets and 23 retaining clips.
- Remove the wiring harness from the subframe.
- Remove and discard the 2 upper stabilizer bar link retaining nuts.
- Remove the 4 bolts and stabilizer bar.
Remove the 2 bolts and height sensor assembly.
Remove and discard the tie-rod to subframe nuts.
Remove and discard the 2 upper control arm to subframe nuts and bolts.

CAUTION: Take extra care not to damage the seals.
Remove the 2 halfshafts from the differential.

WARNING: The component(s) may be heavy. Take extra care when handling.NOTE: Discard the nuts and bolts.
With the aid of another technician remove the suspension assemblies from the subframe and discard the 4 bolts and nuts.
Remove and discard the 2 differential mounting bolts.
Remove the differential and discard the 2 bolts.
