System Fault Message

If a fault is detected in the Adaptive Damping (AD) system the message 'ADAPTIVE DAMPING FAULT' is displayed on the Instrument Cluster (IC). The message is sent by the CHCM via the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) chassis systems bus to the IC. The CHCM also logs an appropriate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). The CHCM can be interrogated using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.

When a fault is detected, the CHCM implements a strategy based on the type of fault. If there is an electrical power fault, or the CHCM cannot control the adaptive shock absorbers, they default to the firm condition. If a sensor fails that only affects one or more control modes then an intermediate shock absorber setting is used as the lower threshold. The remaining working modes can demand higher damping as required. In the event of a HS CAN bus fault, the adaptive shock absorbers are fixed at an intermediate setting (no control) or default to the firm condition. This setting is depending on the severity of the fault.
