Wheel Knuckle - Project 8, AWD (G2246514): Removal
- To avoid damage to the Constant Velocity joint (CV) or CV boot, do not allow the halfshaft to hang.
- The lower arm ball joint can be damaged by excessive articulation.
- The wheel knuckle must be fully supported at all times.
- Do not allow the wheel knuckle to hang on the lower arm.
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- This procedure contains illustrations for left side components, right side components are similar.
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

- Remove the wheel and tire.

CAUTION: Do not use air or power tools to remove or install the halfshaft nut.
Apply the foot brake and remove and discard the halfshaft nut.
Remove the 5 bolts and remove the duct.
- Remove the bolt and remove the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) sensor from the wheel knuckle.
- Release the ABS wiring harness from the bracket.
- Position the harness away from the wheel knuckle.

NOTE: If equipped.
Disconnect the suspension height sensor link.

CAUTION: Make sure that the brake hose does not support the full weight of the brake caliper assembly.
- Remove and discard the 2 brake caliper bolts.
- Remove the brake caliper from the disc and suitably support the caliper away from the wheel knuckle.
- Loosen, but do not fully remove the tie rod end nut.
- Using a suitable tool, release the tie rod end.
General Equipment: Two leg puller
- Remove the nut and position the tie rod assembly away from the wheel knuckle.
- Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link nut.
- Position the stabilizer bar link in the direction illustrated.

CAUTION: Make sure the nut is installed to the ball joint. Failure to follow this instruction might result in damage to the CV boot.
- Loosen, but do not fully remove the nut.
- Position the special tool as illustrated
- Using the special tool, release the lower arm ball joint.
Special Tool(s): JLR-204-793A
General Equipment: Copper Hammer
- Remove the special tool.
Remove the nut.

CAUTION: Take extra care when releasing the halfshaft. Failure to follow this instruction might result in damage to the CV boot.
Using the special tool, release the halfshaft.Special Tool(s): 205-857
- Remove the special tool.

CAUTION:
- Do not use air or power tools to remove or install the nut and bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the wheel knuckle.
- Do not pry or wedge open the clevis gap to release the upper ball joint from the wheel knuckle. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the wheel knuckle.
- Remove and discard the upper wheel knuckle nut and bolt.
- Release the wheel knuckle assembly from the upper arm ball joint.

NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
Remove the wheel knuckle assembly from the vehicle.
Remove the bolt and remove the brake disc.
Remove the 3 bolts and remove the brake disc shield.
Remove the bolt and remove the ABS wiring harness bracket.
- Position the special tool as illustrated.
- Using a hydraulic press, remove the wheel hub.
Special Tool(s): JLR-204-726 , JLR-204-836
General Equipment: Hydraulic press
Using a suitable tool, position the inner race 5mm.
General Equipment: Vise jaw protectors
General Equipment: Workbench with vice
General Equipment: Chisel
- Install the special tool as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): 204-305
- Using a hydraulic press, remove the inner bearing race.
General Equipment: Hydraulic press
- Install the special tool as illustrated.
Remove and discard the circlip.

NOTE: Note the position of the wheel bearing before removal.
- Install the special tools as illustrated.
- Using a hydraulic press, remove and discard the wheel bearing.
