Wheel Knuckle - Project 8, AWD (G2246514): Installation

  1. NOTE: Steps 1-10 are only required if previously removed.

    Make sure the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) magnetic pickup of the wheel bearing, faces towards the wheel knuckle.

    Renew Part: Wheel hub bearing(s)  Quantity: 1  .

  2. CAUTION: Make sure all the mating faces are clean and free from foreign material.

    Make sure the wheel bearing is installed correctly. Failure to install the wheel bearing straight could cause damage to the wheel bearing and the wheel knuckle.

    • Install the special tools as illustrated.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-204-726  , JLR-204-807 

    • Using a hydraulic press, install the wheel bearing.

      General Equipment: Hydraulic press

    Make sure the wheel bearing is fully pressed into the wheel knuckle.

    Install the circlip.

  6. CAUTION: The bevelled edge of the retaining clip must face outwards.

    Make sure the wheel bearing circlip is correctly installed.

  7. CAUTION: Make sure all the mating faces are clean and free from foreign material.

    Make sure the wheel hub is installed correctly. Failure to install the wheel hub straight could cause damage to the wheel bearing.

    1. Install the special tools as illustrated.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-204-726  , JLR-204-836 

    2. Using a hydraulic press install the wheel hub to the wheel bearing and knuckle assembly.

    General Equipment: Hydraulic press

    Make sure the wheel hub is fully installed.

    • Install the bracket.
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque  : 9Nm

    • Install the brake disc shield.
    • Install and tighten the 3 bolts.

      Torque  : 9Nm

    • Install the brake disc
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque  : 20Nm

    • CAUTION:
      • Do not use air or power tools to remove or install the nut and bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the wheel knuckle.
      • Do not pry or wedge open the clevis gap to release the upper ball joint from the wheel knuckle. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the wheel knuckle.
      • Take extra care when installing the component. Failure to follow this instruction might result in damage to the CV  boot.

      Install the knuckle assembly to the vehicle and reposition the upper control arm.
    • Install and tighten the new upper control arm nut and bolt.

      Renew Part: Wheel knuckle nut and bolt  Quantity: 1  .

      Torque  : 60Nm 

  14. CAUTION:
    • Take extra care when installing the component. Failure to follow this instruction might result in damage to the CV  boot.
    • Do not use air or power tools to remove or install the halfshaft nut.

    Use the new halfshaft nut to aid installation of the halfshaft into the hub.

    Renew Part: Front halfshaft nut  Quantity: 1  .

  15. CAUTION: Take extra care when installing the lower control arm. Failure to follow this instruction might result in damage to the CV  or the CV  boot.

    Reposition the lower arm. Install and tighten the new nut.

    Renew Part: Ball joint nut(s) and washer(s)  Quantity: 1  .

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 90Nm 

    Stage 2: 90° 

  16. Reposition the stabilizer bar link. Install and tighten the new nut.

    Renew Part: Stabilizer bar link upper nut  Quantity: 1  .

    Torque  : 60Nm 

  17. Reposition the tie rod. Install and tighten the new nut.

    Renew Part: Tie-rod end nut  Quantity: 1  .

    Torque  : 133Nm 

  18. Reposition the brake caliper. Install and tighten the 2 new bolts.

    Renew Part: Brake caliper housing bolt(s)  Quantity: 2  .

    Torque 

    Stage 1: 80Nm 

    Stage 2: 60° 

  19. Connect the suspension height sensor link.

    • Reposition the ABS wiring harness and secure in the retaining clip.
    • Install the ABS sensor to the wheel knuckle.
    • Install and tighten the bolt.

      Torque  : 9Nm 

    • Install the brake duct.
    • Install and tighten the 5 bolts.

      Torque  : 9Nm 

  22. CAUTION: Do not use air or power tools to remove or install the halfshaft nut.

    • Apply the foot brake and tighten the new halfshaft nut.

      Torque  : 175Nm 

    • Loosen the halfshaft nut.

      Loosen  : 90° 

    • Install and tighten a halfshaft nut.

      Torque 

      Stage 1: 80Nm 

      Stage 2: 60° 

  23. Install the wheel and tire.
