Diesel Exhaust Fluid Injector Test (G2153614): Activation
- Visually inspect the selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system for leaks. (possible detailed image to show where)
- Visually inspect the selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system wiring harness for damage.
-
NOTE: Make sure the vehicle has an adequate quantity of diesel exhaust fluid in the tank before carrying out this application.
Using the approved diagnostic equipment run the SCR diagnostic tool application for test reductant system lines. This will test the system with 1-2 Bar of pressure, the system must be checked during and after the test for leaks.
- Using a suitable 2 post lift raise and support the vehicle
Reposition the SCR injector wiring harness cover.
Reposition the SCR injector cover.
Remove the SCR injector clamp bolt.
-
NOTE: Make sure the SCR injector is supported.
Release the SCR injector from the exhaust system.
Install the spray pattern paper into bottom of the injector canister.
Install the injector canister to the SCR injector.
-
NOTE: Make sure the vehicle has an adequate quantity of diesel exhaust fluid in the tank before carrying out this application.
Using the approved diagnostic equipment run the SCR diagnostic tool application for spray pattern. This routine will activate the SCR injector once to release a spray of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) onto the spray pattern paper.
Remove the injector canister from the SCR injector.
Carefully remove the spray pattern paper from the bottom of the injector canister.
- Inspect the spray pattern and compare the pattern to those examples shown in the illustration. The SCR injector has 3 spray nozzles and should show a uniform pattern similar to the examples in the left side of the illustration
- If the spray pattern displayed in the test meets the examples shown on the left side of the illustration proceed to the next step.
- If the spray pattern displayed in the test does not meet the examples shown on the left side of the illustration proceed to step 23 .
Use the 500g weight supplied with the kit to calibrate the scales, take note of any difference in reading.
Weigh the injector canister and make note of the reading.
Install the injector canister to the vehicle.
- Using the manufacturers approved diagnostic system run the Dosing valve dynamic behaviour routine.
- Remove the injector canister from the vehicle.
- Place the canister on the scales and note the reading.
- Calculate the difference between the reading in this step to the one taken in step 16 .
- The weight difference should be between 5.4 - 6.6g. If the reading is within range continue to the next step, if the reading is out of range the injector must be replaced following the injector procedure.
Refer to: DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID INJECTOR
Clean any DEF from inside the injector canister and then install back on the SCR injector.
- Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system run the Static reductant dosing quantity routine
- Remove the injector canister from the vehicle.
- Place the canister on the scales and note the reading.
- Calculate the difference between the reading in this step to the one taken in step 16 .
- The weight difference should be between 28.8 - 35.2g. If the reading is within range continue to the next step, if the reading is out of range the injector must be replaced following the injector procedure.
Refer to: DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID INJECTOR
- NOTE: This routine will help remove any blockages and restrictions in the system.
Using the manufacturer approved diagnostic system run the Static reductant dosing quantity routine.
- Repeat steps 9 -14 to check the spray pattern. If the spray pattern has improved and meets the spray patterns shown in step 14 then rebuild the vehicle. If the spray pattern test does not achieve the spray patterns shown in step 14 the injector must be replaced following the injector procedure. Refer to: DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID INJECTOR
