Fuel Fire Booster Heater (FFBH) Performance Issues

Diagnostic Procedure 

A customer may express a concern that the vehicle passenger compartment fails to reach the selected temperature upon start up, or when the park heat function is used. DTC  s B1D2671 and B1D2993 may be stored. The cause of this could be that the air intake system of the Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH) can become obstructed with the ingress of road debris such as snow/mud/salt

CAUTION: This procedure requires a minimum of Pathfinder 160 loaded or later
NOTE: The Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Approved Diagnostic Equipment will read the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for the vehicle and automatically take the vehicle out of 'Transportation mode' if required
  1. Connect the Jaguar Land Rover Approved battery support unit
  2. Follow the on screen prompts of the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment
  3. Connect the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment to the vehicle and begin a new session
  4. Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, read the stored DTC  s
  5. Review the DTC  s and address any unrelated issues before continuing with this procedure
  6. DTC  s related to this procedure will be B1D26-71 and B1D29-93 and the DTC  s will be stored in the HVAC Control Module. If there are any other DTC  s stored, they should be investigated and rectified before continuing with this procedure.
  7. Clear the stored DTC  s using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment
    NOTE:
    • The Fuel Fired Booster Heater may also be referred to as the Auxiliary Heater Control Module (AHCM) in the repair information
    • The AHCM activation test should only be started when the engine is cool
    • The AHCM activation test should be performed with the engine running and with the climate controls set to the maximum temperature setting and maximum fan speed
    • This will operate the FFBH for 15 minutes
  8. Complete an AHCM activation test (0x900A). Refer to: DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX - DTC: AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL MODULE (ATCM)
  9. Follow the on screen prompts of the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment
  10. Select "ECU Diagnostics"
  11. Select "ECU Functions"
  12. Select "HVAC Control Module [HVAC]"
  13. Select "Auxiliary Heater Activation Test"
  14. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete the task
  15. Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment, read the stored DTC  s
  16. If the Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH) actuated correctly during the "Auxiliary Heater Activation Test", and there are no DTC  s stored, Continue to "Service Instruction 1" when this diagnostic procedure is complete.
  17. If the Fuel Fired Booster Heater (FFBH) did not actuate correctly during the "Auxiliary Heater Activation Test", and/or either DTC  s B1D26-71 and B1D29-93 are stored, Continue to "Service Instruction 2" when this diagnostic procedure is complete.
  18. If necessary, clear the stored DTC  s using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment
  19. If required, reset the vehicle to "Transportation Mode"
  20. When all of the tasks are complete, exit the session
