Low Pressure Exhaust Gas RECIRCULATION System

The Low Pressure (LP) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system consists of the following components:
- The LP EGR cooler located on the right side of the engine and is secured to the cylinder block with a bracket and 4 bolts.
- The LP EGR valve assembly is attached to the top of the LP EGR cooler and secured with 6 bolts.
- The HP EGR outlet pipe which provides the connection between the HP EGR valve and the intake manifold.
The Low Pressure (LP) Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is a solenoid operated valve which is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM uses the LP EGR valve to control the amount of exhaust gas being re-circulated from the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) in order to further reduce exhaust emissions. The LP EGR valve is enabled when the engine is at normal operating temperature and under cruising conditions.
