Crankshaft Rear Seal (G1817146): Installation

The following step(s) applies to: 

All vehicles

      CAUTION: Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.
    1. Install the special tool (JLR-303-1674) to the rear of the crankshaft.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1674A 

  2. CAUTION:
    1. Make sure a new seal is installed.
    2. If the seal is removed from the spacer provided, a new seal must be installed.
    3. Make sure that the area around the component is clean and free of foreign material.
    NOTE: The component labeled (2) in the illustration is a alignment spacer provided with a new seal.

    Position the new crankshaft oil seal (1) and spacer (2) over special tool JLR-303-1674A. Carefully slide the crankshaft oil seal (1) over the end of the crankshaft and discard the spacer (2).

    Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1674A 

    Renew Part: Crankshaft rear seal  Quantity: 1  .

      CAUTION: Make sure the seal is installed correctly.
    1. Install the second part of special tool JLR-303-1674A to position the crankshaft oil seal correctly.

      Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1674A 

    2. Tighten the bolt until the seal is fully installed and the bolt stops turning.

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    Vehicles with automatic transmission

  4. Install the drive plate.

    Refer to: FLEXPLATE 

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    Vehicles with manual transmission

  5. Install the flywheel.

    Refer to: FLYWHEEL

    The following step(s) applies to: 

    All vehicles

  6. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
