Road Test (G2389605)
- Conduct road test and checks. NOTE:
- If a vehicle has recently moved into the workshop from outside, the temperature readings may differ from the ambient workshop temperature.
- If the temperature readings are not displayed, or differ excessively from the ambient temperature; use the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment to complete an Ambient Temperature Reset.
Check the external temperature reading displayed in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and the Interactive Display Module A (IDMA).
The temperature readings should be comparable with the ambient temperature.
CAUTION: Optimum braking efficiency is only achieved after bedding in brake disc and pads. It is important to avoid repeated hard use of the brakes during the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) road test. The road test is the only opportunity to assess the quality of ride, handling, general performance and noise levels under differing traffic and road conditions. Every care must be taken to make sure the vehicle performs to the standard of excellence expected by Jaguar Land Rover customers.
Investigate and report any issues with the quality of ride, handling, general performance, and noise levels during the road test.
Before road testing the vehicle on a public highway, make sure the driver's vision is not obscured by labels and check the operation of:
- Lights, indicators, wipers, wash/wipe, horn and hazard warning
- IPC switches
- Electric Park Brake (EPB)
- Electric mirrors, including power fold (If the mirrors are manually folded or knocked into the folded position accidentally, the mirror head will be loose. To re-engage the mechanism, fold and then unfold the mirrors using the switches).
- Terrain Response (TR) indicators and hill descent control indicators on the IPC .
Ignition and gearshift Interlocks.
CAUTION: Apply the EPB, chock the wheels and make sure that all personnel are clear of the vehicle before completing this procedure.Check the following:
- The Transmission Control Switch (TCS) is locked in the 'P' (Park) position and also locks in the 'N' (Neutral) position.
- That when the ignition is switched on, engine running and the brake pedal pressed, the TCS can now be moved from the 'P' or 'N' positions.
Engine starting.
Check the following:
- The engine will only start when the TCS lever is in the 'P' or 'N' positions or when in hold neutral mode.
- The starter motor operates without undue noise and the engine starts easily.
- The tachometer registers as the engine is started.
- The warning lamps and message center are not displaying any warnings or messages after the engine is started.
- The fuel and oil level gauges are registering correctly.
- The oil pressure and battery condition warning lamps are extinguished.
On the road.
NOTE: Refer to the repair information for full sequential shift mode details.Check the following:
- The transmission operates correctly.
- All gear changes in are smooth.
- Message center displays 'P R N D S' and that the current TCS position is highlighted.
- Check that the manual gear change operates correctly both in the 'D' and 'S' positions when the steering column shift paddles are used.
- Check that when the gearshift selector is moved to the 'D' and 'S' positions and a shift paddle is operated, the message center now displays the current gear selection ('D2', 'S2' , etc.).
- Accelerator pedal action.
- The 'kick down' feature operates correctly when changing down gear.
While driving the vehicle, check the operation of all driver controls and systems. Check the operation of:
- Terrain Response (if equipped).
- Direction indicators.
- Stop/Start - When the vehicle is started, the Stop/Start system defaults to ON, and the ECO switch will be illuminated. Press the ECO switch, confirm that the switch light is extinguished and the message 'ECO Stop/Start OFF' is displayed on the IPC. Press the ECO switch again and confirm that the switch light is illuminated and the message 'ECO Stop/Start ON' is displayed.
- If the ECO Stop/Start fault lamp is illuminated on the IPC, interrogate the system using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment. Resolve any issues and clear fault codes.
- Parking aids including park assist - perpendicular and parallel parking (if equipped).
- Traffic sign recognition (if equipped).
- Lane departure warning (if equipped).
- Queue assist (if equipped).
- Wade sensing (if equipped).
- Cruise control including SET, RESUME and CANCEL.
- Gear change including sequence operation.
- Clear sight rear view mirror (if equipped).
For more information refer to the owners handbook.
Check for any unusual noises from the powertrain, suspension or braking systems. Investigate any concerns.
Check for squeaks and rattles from the vehicle interior. Investigate any concerns.
Check operation of the Air Conditioning (A/C) system.
- When the vehicle is at operating temperature, set the heater control to LO-LO and switch the blower speed to position 4.
- Set the air distribution to the face vents.
- Switch on the A/C system and run for 5 minutes.
- Confirm that the air from the face vents is chilled.
Check the operation of the heating and ventilation system.
- When the vehicle is at operating temperature, set the heater control to HI-HI and switch the blower speed to position 4.
- Confirm that the air from the face vents is warm.
Check the operation of all air distribution positions.
Navigation system.
Check the operation of the navigation system.
With the vehicle outside, access the navigation home screen and make sure that the system is receiving Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal. The GNSS icon will NOT be displayed when a GNSS signal is being received.
During the road test:
- Make sure that the navigation system displays the correct vehicle position.
- Enter a destination:
- Press the 'Nav menu' soft key.
- Press the 'Destination entry' soft key.
- Verify the correct search area is selected.
- Enter a destination (such as retailer address): street number, street name, town.
- Select one of the three displayed routes.
- Press the 'Go' soft key.
- Follow the system guidance to confirm correct operation and voice guidance functionality.
- When complete, clear all previous destinations:
- Press the 'Nav menu' soft key.
- Press the 'More' soft key.
- Press the 'Stored locations' soft key.
- Press the 'Delete all' soft key.
- Press the 'Yes' soft key.
- Press the 'Return to map' soft key.
Refer to the owner's handbook for complete navigation system operation information.
Check the following immediately after the road test and rectify any concerns found:
CAUTION: Take care to not damage the sills when raising the vehicle on a ramp. The jacking points are recessed under the vehicle, blocks may need to be inserted to safely jack the vehicle.- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
- Check both above and under the engine for any oil, fuel, fluid, or water leaks.
- All pipes and hoses are clipped in to their anchorages and that no chafing has occurred or is likely to occur in the future.
- Vehicle storage procedure/Storage tire pressures (if required).
If the vehicle is designated for further transport after PDI or is likely to stand for a significant length of time after PDI, the vehicle must have all tires raised and maintained to pressures of 350-380 kPa (3.5 - 3.8 bar/51 - 56 PSI) and transit mode re-engaged until just prior to customer handover. The road wheels must be rotated through 270° in the forward direction every 30 days to make sure that the tread is rotated evenly during the storage period.
