Creating the Fingerprint
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Fingerprint is used for identifying the software, the content, the device type and the version numbers of the navigation subsystem for which the online update is needed.
This process also collects the necessary software and firmware related information from the head unit and summarizes it into one package, named 'Fingerprint'.
For creating the fingerprint, the following steps have to be taken using an empty USB storage device:
- Turn on the 'ignition' of the vehicle and start the 'navigation subsystem' .
- Insert the empty 'USB storage device' into the 'USB plug' of the head unit.
- In the navigation menu tap 'Navigation Info' , then 'Content Information' . On the displayed content information screen, tap 'Content Update' .
- Wait until the initialization ends.
- Tap 'Yes' in the dialogue box with the text "Are you ready to start collecting map identifying data? ". The collection of device information starts and a progress bar shows the status of the process.
- When the fingerprint has been created, a pop-up message shows the result of the process. Remove the connected 'USB storage device' and tap 'OK' .
