Pinpoint Test B: Heating And Cooling - Noisy Operation

B1: DRIVER OR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BACKREST CLIMATE ASSEMBLY - NOISE LEVEL COMPARISON
1. Compare the noise level of the climate seat assembly to the opposing side of the vehicle
  Is the noise level equal between the two seats?
  
  Yes
  
  The noise level is standard and comparable to the design intent
  
  No
  
  GO to B2.
B2: CHECK FOR STORED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE(S)
1. Check the HVAC for stored DTC s
  Are there any stored DTC s?
  
  Yes
  
  For information on stored DTC s refer to the information in the HVAC DTC index. If the fault persists or the DTC index refers back to the Diagnosis and Testing procedure, GO to B3.
  
  No
  
  GO to B3.
B3: DRIVER OR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT CLIMATE ASSEMBLY - NOISE
1. Operate the heat and cool function of the seat. Listen for a 'WAH WAH' noise (the fan speeds up and slows down repeatedly)
  Does the fan speed up and slow down repeatedly?
  
  Yes
  
  Confirm the latest Strategy and Calibration software is installed, using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment update the HVAC software to the latest level if required. If the noise is still evident after software update, GO to B4.
  
  No
  
  GO to B4.
B4: DRIVER OR FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BACKREST CLIMATE ASSEMBLY - NOISE
WARNING: Before work is completed, make the airbag supplemental restraint system safe. For additional information, refer to Standard Workshop Practices article of repair information
NOTE:
- The climate controlled seat's (heat and cool) functions will only operate when the vehicle's engine is running
- If a fault is identified and repaired, check for correct operation of the driver and front-passenger climate controlled seat (heat and cool) functions
1. Complete a visual inspection of the seat backrest climate assembly that has been identified as noisy by the customer. Deformation of the suspension mat can cause it to press against the casing of the seat backrest climate assembly, this can cause casing to distort and the noise concern may occur. If contact has occurred there will be a witness mark on the casing of the seat backrest climate assembly
  Is there a witness mark on the casing?
  
  Yes
  
  Replace the individual seat climate assembly, DO NOT replace the seat backrest and seat base climate assemblies as pairs.
  
  No
  
  GO to B5.
B5: CHECK THE SECURITY OF THE CLIMATE UNIT
1. Check the condition of the climate assembly fixing to the seat backrest and make sure the outlet is correctly installed and secured to the seat base.
  Is the climate assembly correctly installed and secured?
  
  Yes
  
  GO to B6.
  
  No
  
  Secure the climate assembly to the seat replacing any fixtures required and retest the system.
B6: SYSTEM INTEGRITY CHECKS
1. Check the condition of the air intake and fan for blockages causing a restricted air flow.
  Were any blockages found?
  
  Yes
  
  Remove any blockages and retest the system.
  
  No
  
  GO to B7.
B7: SYSTEM INTEGRITY CHECKS
1. Check the air intake and fan for damage which could cause reduced functionality.
  Was any damage to the air intake or fan found?
  
  Yes
  
  Replace the damaged climate assembly only, DO NOT replace in pairs.
  
  No
  
  GO to B8.
B8: SYSTEM INTEGRITY CHECKS
1. Remove the climate assembly and inspect the climate assembly outlet duct is installed correctly to the seat backrest and the bellows within the seat backrest.
  Was a concern found with the alignment and installation of the components?
  
  Yes
  
  Rectify as necessary and retest the system.
  
  No
  
  GO to B9.
B9: SYSTEM INTEGRITY CHECKS
1. Remove the seat backrest and inspect the bellows and the seat backrest cushion for damage.
  Was any damage found to the seat backrest cushion or the bellows?
  
  Yes
  
  Rectify as necessary, replace the bellows and/or the seat backrest cushion. DO NOT replace the seat backrest cover as part of the repair.
  
  No
  
  Internal fault with the identified seat backrest climate assembly, replace as necessary.
