Climate Seats Diagnostics - System Overview: Notes
Each seat has two climate assemblies: one in the seat base and one in the seat backrest. Each climate assembly is comprised of a fan, a TED (Thermal Electric Device) and some ducting connecting the two. The fan draws in passenger compartment air and blows it through the ducting and across the two halves of the TED. Therefore, half of the air coming from the fan is directed across the main side of the TED and into the seat foam, while the other half is directed across the waste side of the TED and exhausted. Depending on the direction current is applied across the TED, one side will get hot while the other will get cold or vice versa when the current is reversed. For example, if the customer selects seat cooling, the main side of the TED will get cold directing cool air into the seat, while the waste side of the TED will become hot directing warm waste air away from the seat.
