Active Exhaust System Operation Modes

Operation of the active exhaust system depends on the JaguarDrive Switchpack (JDS) selection and the active exhaust switch status.

When the engine is running the driver can activate the active exhaust system. System can be activated by operating the active exhaust switch or selecting Dynamic/Track mode manually on the JaguarDrive Switchpack (JDS).

Additionally, the driver can switch between the active exhaust system operating modes independently.

The active exhaust system has 2 different modes:

Normal Exhaust Mode

In normal exhaust mode, the valves are closed at idle (the active exhaust switch is OFF). They begin to open gradually from 3, 500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) depending upon the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor position signal. This serves to both enhance the sound quality in the vehicle, and reduce back pressure to enhance engine performance.

Dynamic Exhaust Mode

In dynamic exhaust mode, the valves are open at idle. To activate the Dynamic exhaust mode of the active exhaust system, switch the ignition ON and operate the active exhaust switch on the floor console. After the engine starts the active exhaust system operates in Dynamic exhaust mode.

If the Track mode is selected on the JDS, the active exhaust system is automatically set to Dynamic mode and the active exhaust valves are open at idle. Above the normal idle speed the valves are closed and begins to open again at approximately 3, 000 RPM. The active exhaust system can be deactivated manually by operating the active exhaust switch on the floor console.

NOTE: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) disables the active exhaust system during specific engine operating conditions.

NOTE: The active exhaust valves can open any time according to the related engine operating conditions.
