Variable Camshaft Timing Actuator (G2320257): Removal

NOTE:

- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT
- Remove the hood.
Refer to: HOOD
- Remove the upper timing cover.
Refer to: UPPER TIMING COVER
- Remove the charge air cooler.
Refer to: CHARGE AIR COOLER
Release the 4 side retaining clips.
Release the 2 front clips.
Remove the charge air cooler bracket.
- Install the special tool JLR-303-1656 as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1656
- Use the special tool JLR-303-1656 to rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks align as illustrated.
Install the special tool as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1635
Torque: 13 Nm
Install the special tool as illustrated.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1636
Torque: 13 Nm
- Install the remaining components of the special tool.

- Using the special tool, lock the crankshaft into position.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1630
Loosen but do not fully remove the exhaust Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) bolt.
Remove and discard the upper timing chain tensioner.
Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s): JLR-303-1636

CAUTION: Note the location of the VCT units prior to removal. Each VCT unit is matched to a specific camshaft.
- Remove and discard the 2 VCT unit center bolts.
- Remove the 2 VCT units.
- Remove and discard the 2 bolts.
- Remove and discard the timing chain guide.
- Remove and discard the bolt.
- Remove and discard the upper timing chain guide.
Remove and discard the upper timing chain guide.
