Tire Location
Different pressure targets and thresholds are required for the front and rear tires. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) can identify the location of the TPMS sensors on the vehicle. The TPMS can also assign received TPMS sensor identification of a specific position on the vehicle.
These positions are the following:
- Front left
- Front right
- Rear left
- Rear right.
The TPMS locates the tire sensor automatically using an auto location function. The auto-location function does not need any manual intervention by the driver. The TPMS can automatically learn the position of TPMS sensors on the vehicle if the TPMS sensors or their positions are changed on the vehicle.
The tire-learn and location process is ready to start when:
- The vehicle is stationary.
- The vehicle is traveling at less than 20 km/h (12.5 mph) for 15 minutes (parking mode).
The tire-learn and location process needs the vehicle to be driven at speeds of more than 20 km/h (12.5 mph) for 10 minutes. Then the timer is resumed. If the vehicle speed stays below 20 km/h (12.5 mph) for more than 15 minutes, the timer is set to zero. The process starts again.
The TPMS can automatically detect the following under all operating conditions:
- If 1 or more TPMS sensors have been replaced.
- If 1 or more TPMS sensor identifications are missing.
- If 1 or more TPMS sensors have stopped transmitting.
- If it receives identifications from TPMS sensors which do not belong to the vehicle.
- If 1 or more of the wheels are in use on the vehicle has changed position.
- If 1 or more incompatible TPMS sensors have been installed.
- If a temporary spare wheel is swapped with a running wheel.
If the TPMS sensors mounted to the running wheels are swapped, the TPMS can learn the new TPMS sensor identifications and locations automatically. The learn function does not need any manual intervention by the driver.
