Instructions For Cerium Oxide Windshield Cleaning Procedure

Erratic movements of the wiper blades across the windshield may be caused by contaminants or residue on the surface of the glass. Under these circumstances, the windshield glass can be deep-cleaned using cerium oxide powder as detailed below:

1. Before applying the cerium oxide powder, the wiper blades should be wrapped with paper roll to protect them.
2. Lightly spray water onto the windshield glass (this will allow the dry cerium oxide powder to adhere to the screen during the cleaning process).
3. Lightly dust the dampened windshield with a small amount of cerium oxide powder.
4. Using a lint-free cloth, rub the cerium oxide powder across the screen so that it forms a paste on contact with the wet windshield. Starting from the top-left portion of the windshield, the powder should be rubbed vigorously across the surface of the windshield using a circular motion. Work the powder/paste from left to right at the top of the windshield and then continue working downward until the entire surface of the windshield has been evenly covered in the cerium oxide paste.
5. Most of the cerium oxide dust/paste will be removed by this action, however, any remaining dust/paste residue should be removed from the windshield surface by rinsing thoroughly with clean water.
6. To confirm the windshield has been thoroughly and effectively cleaned, apply water to the surface of the windshield and note how the water behaves in contact with the glass surface. If the windshield has been effectively cleaned, the water should coat the surface of the windshield glass in an even and continuous film (as shown on the left of the windshield pictured below). If the water forms into individual droplets (beads) on the surface of the glass (as shown on the right of the windshield pictured below), this indicates that the cleaning process in incomplete and that waxy or silicone residues may still be covering the surface of the windshield glass. In this case, repeat steps  2 -5 above.
7. When the windshield has been cleaned appropriately, the protective paper roll should be removed from the wiper blades.
8. Return the vehicle to the customer and advise the customer as to best practice for a clean windshield, i.e.: to avoid  using vehicle cleaning products which contain a wax treatment on the windshield and other windows.
