The Compressor Recirculation Valve (CRV) is located in the charge air hose and secured with three screws. The charge air hose connects the compressor outlet and the charge air cooler. The CRV is controlled with a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
During a quick throttle closing event the CRV prevents the charge air flow from turning around and flowing through the compressor, which would cause compressor surge. The CRV allows the pressurized air to recirculate from the charge air hose to the compressor intake, preventing compressor surge during the quick throttle closing events.
