Rear Shock Absorber (G2187380): Removal
NOTE:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING .
- Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
Refer to: WHEEL AND TIRE .
Support the rear suspension knuckle with a transmission jack.
General Equipment: Transmission jack
- Remove the rear wheel arch liner.
Refer to: REAR WHEEL ARCH LINER .
The following step(s) applies to:
Vehicles with active damping

CAUTION: Unclip the harness connector and leave the attachment clip on the rear lower control arm.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the electrical connector from the rear lower control arm.
The following step(s) applies to:
All vehicles

CAUTION: Do not use air tools to remove the nut(s). Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
Remove and discard the 2 nuts.

CAUTION: Note the installed position of the component prior to removal.
- Remove and discard the nut and bolt.
- Remove the shock absorber.

NOTE:
- Only perform the following step(s) if a new component is to be installed.
- Inspect rubber top mount and replace if showing any visible signs of wear and damage.
- Inspect the spring aid and replace if showing any visible signs of wear and damage.
- Remove the cap.
- Unclip and remove the gaiter.
- Remove and discard the nut.
- Remove the top mounting bracket.
- Remove spring aid.
