Turbocharger (G2110433): Removal

WARNING:

Be prepared to collect escaping engine coolant.
Be prepared to collect escaping engine oil.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING .
Disconnect the 12 V system.
Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .
Partially drain the engine cooling system.
Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM PARTIAL DRAINING AND VACUUM FILLING .
Remove the secondary bulkhead center panel.
Refer to: SECONDARY BULKHEAD CENTER PANEL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L PETROL .

- Remove the oil supply pipe bolt.
- Remove and discard the 2 seals.

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Release the clip.
- Remove the catalytic converter upper heatshield.

Release the 2 fasteners and remove the electrical connector heatshield.

- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Release the 2 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) from the 2 clips.
- Release the 3 wiring harness clips.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the bracket.

- Remove the nut.
- Remove the catalytic converter lower heatshield.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the turbocharger to cylinder head bracket.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the turbocharger upper heatshield.

- Remove the bolt.
- Release the 2 coolant pipes.
- Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the oil return pipe.
- Remove and discard the 2 O-ring seals.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the turbocharger lower heatshield.

Disconnect the charge air cooler inlet pipe.

Disconnect the electrical connector from the turbocharger.

Release the clamp.

Loosen, but do not fully remove the catalytic converter bracket to engine bolt.

Loosen, but do not fully remove the 2 catalytic converter upper bolts.

- Remove and discard the 4 nuts.
- Remove the turbocharger.

Remove and discard the turbocharger to cylinder head gasket.
