The Electric Park Brake (EPB) is manually applied and released using the EPB switch. On a Right Hand Drive (RHD) vehicle the EPB switch is located to the right of the steering column, above the auxiliary lighting switch. On a Left Hand Drive (LHD) vehicle it is located to the left of the steering column.
To apply the EPB, operate the EPB switch away from you. To release the EPB, operate the EPB switch towards you.
The EPB switch has four hardwired connections with the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) control module, consisting of two apply circuits and two release circuits. This enables the ABS control module to perform a plausibility check on each switch selection.
When the EPB switch is operated, the ABS control module activates the EPB actuators to apply the brakes. The ABS control module signals the Instrument Cluster (IC) to turn on the EPB indicator lamp.
Interior lighting switch illumination is provided by a hardwired connection with the Body Control Module/Gateway Module (BCM/GWM) assembly.
