Transfer Case - Overview (G1772601): Overview

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Jaguar XJ, 2016 Jaguar XJ, 2015 Jaguar XJ, 2014 Jaguar XJ, and 2013 Jaguar XJ. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The transfer case is a 'torque on demand' coupling, which is controlled by a TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module). The unit is manufactured by Magna.

The transfer case can adjust the driveline output from RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) to AWD (All Wheel Drive) depending on driving style and road surface conditions.

The TCCM is located on the underside of the transfer case. The TCCM is connected on the HS (High Speed) CAN (Controller Area Network) Powertrain bus and receives data from various control modules including the ECM (Engine Control Module) and the ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) control module. Using information from other control modules the TCCM can determine the required torque to be applied to the front wheels via an electronically controlled clutch and gear drive to the front driveshaft.

The driver can indirectly select AWD settings through selection of the JDC (JaguarDrive Control) modes (Normal mode, Winter mode and Dynamic mode).
