Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Jaguar XJ, 2016 Jaguar XJ, 2015 Jaguar XJ, 2014 Jaguar XJ, and 2013 Jaguar XJ. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) allows the ECM to determine the position and angular rate of change of the throttle blade.
There are two TPS located in the electric throttle. See below for details of the electric throttle.
If a TPS fails, the ECM:
- Adopts a limp home mode where engine speed is limited to a maximum of approximately 2000 rev/min
- Discontinues evaporative emissions control
- Discontinues closed loop control of engine idle speed.
With a failed TPS, the engine will suffer from poor running and throttle response.
