Removal And Installation: Removal

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions, when carrying out any repairs to the fuel system.

    Refer to: Petrol and Petrol-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. Release the pressure from the high pressure fuel components. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

  4. Remove the engine cover.

    Refer to: Engine Cover - V6 S/C 3.0L Petrol

  5. Drain the cooling system.

    Refer to: Cooling System Partial Draining, Filling and Bleeding .

  6. Remove air cleaner outlet pipe.

    Refer to: Right Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .

  7. Clean the fuel injection components.

    Refer to: Fuel Injection Component Cleaning .

  8. Disconnect the left side coolant pipes.

  9. Release the left side pipes.

  10. Remove the left side engine Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

  11. Disconnect the right side coolant pipes.
    CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.

  12. Disconnect and release the brake vacuum pipe.

  13. Remove the right side engine Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material.

  14. Remove the right side breather.

  15. Release the engine wiring harness.

  16. Remove the fuel crossover pipe.
    CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.

  17. Release the fuel pipe.
    CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.

  18. Disconnect the right side fuel injectors and ignition coils wiring harness.

  19. Remove the right side ignition coils.

  20. Remove the spark plugs.

    Special Tool(s):  303-1450

  21. Disconnect the fuel rail pressure sensor connector.

  22. Remove the right side fuel rail.
    CAUTION: Make a note of the fuel injector clamp alignment to the fuel rail prior to removal.

  23. Remove the fuel rail pressure sensor.
    NOTE: This step is only required if a new fuel rail is installed.

  24. Remove the right side fuel injectors.
    CAUTION:
    • Make sure that the special tool is located correctly to the fuel injector prior to removing the fuel injector.
    • Make sure that the special tool is held square to the fuel injector during removal.

  25. Remove the injector clamp.
    CAUTION:
    • If the fuel injector is being removed without a new component being installed, the fuel injector clamp must remain with the fuel injector it is removed with.
    • If new fuel injectors are installed, a new injector clamp must be installed.

  26. Remove the fuel injector seal.
    CAUTION:
    • Discard the seal.
    • Do not use a knife to remove the Teflon seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
    • Do not cut the Teflon seal to deep as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
    • Pinch the Teflon seal to allow the tool to cut the Teflon seal without damaging the fuel injector.

  27. Remove and discard seals.
    CAUTION:
    • Discard the seal.
    • Do not use any sharp tools to remove the O-ring seal as damage could occur to the fuel injector.
    • Take extra care not to damage the component.

  28. Remove the engine mount nut.

  29. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: Lifting .

  30. Remove the generator.

    Refer to: Generator .

  31. Release generator wiring harness.

  32. Remove the idler pulley.

  33. Using a suitable hydraulic jack, support the engine.
    CAUTION: Use a wooden block to protect the oil pan when supporting the engine.

    General Equipment:  Transmission jack

  34. Remove the engine mount bracket to engine rear bolts.

  35. Remove the engine mount bracket to engine.

  36. Disconnect and release the high pressure fuel pump wiring harness.

  37. Remove the high pressure fuel pipe shield.

  38. Disconnect the high pressure fuel pump supply pipes.
    CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.

  39. Release the high pressure fuel pump supply pipes.

  40. Remove and discard the high pressure fuel supply pipes.
    CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
