Draining / Filling

CAUTION:
  • The engine cooling system must be maintained with the correct concentration and type of anti-freeze solution to prevent corrosion and frost damage. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the engine.
  • Engine coolant will damage the paint finished surfaces. If split, immediately remove the coolant and clean the area with water.
  • Never remove the coolant expansion tank cap under any circumstances while the engine is operating. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the engine.
NOTE: Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
  1. Carry out the procedure up to step 16 in the filling section three times, filling the cooling system with clean water after the first two drains.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
    WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
  3. WARNING: Release the cooling system pressure by slowly turning the coolant expansion tank cap a quarter of a turn. Cover the expansion tank cap with a thick cloth to prevent the possibility of scalding. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
    CAUTION:
    • Be prepared to collect escaping coolant.
    • Since injury such as scalding could be caused by escaping steam or coolant, make sure the vehicle cooling system is cool prior to carrying out this procedure.

  4. Refer to: Radiator Splash Shield .
  5. Allow the coolant to drain into a suitable container.
    CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

  6. Close the bleed screw.

    Torque: 2 Nm 

    FILLING 

    CAUTION:

  7. Refer to: Engine Cover - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel .

    • Release the clip.
    • Remove the intake air duct.
  9. Open the bleed screw.

    Open the bleed screw.

    • Fill the coolant expansion tank to the rim and continue until coolant is visible from the outlet.
    • Once coolant is visible from the outlet, close the bleeding point.

    • Fill the coolant expansion tank to the rim and continue until coolant is visible from the outlet.
    • Once coolant is visible from the outlet, close the bleeding point.

    • Install the intake air duct.
    • Install the clip.
  14. Start and run the engine.
  15. Run the engine at idle until warm and no further coolant is required, to maintain the coolant level at the maximum mark of the expansion tank.
    CAUTION: Observe the engine temperature warning light. If the warning light is displayed, switch off immediately and allow to cool. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle
  16. CAUTION: Correct installation of the coolant expansion tank cap can be obtained by tightening the cap until an audible click is heard.

  17. Set the heating system to MAX heat, the blower motor to MAX speed and the air distribution to the instrument panel registers.
  18. Increase the engine speed to 2000 rpm for 2 minutes.
    CAUTION: Observe the engine temperature warning light. If the warning light is displayed, switch off immediately and allow to cool. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to the vehicle
  19. When hot air is emitted from the heater vents, switch off the heater.
    CAUTION: If no hot air is emitted from the heater vents, repeat the previous step.
  20. Switch the engine off and allow to cool.
    CAUTION: Switch off the engine and allow the coolant temperature to go cold.
  21. Release the cooling system pressure.
    WARNING: Release the cooling system pressure by slowly turning the coolant expansion tank cap a quarter of a turn. Cover the expansion tank cap with a thick cloth to prevent the possibility of scalding. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
  22. Maintain the coolant level in the coolant expansion tank at the MAX mark using a 50% mixture of Jaguar Premium Cooling System Fluid or equivalent, meeting Jaguar specification WSS M97B44-D and 50% water.
  23. Install the coolant expansion tank pressure cap.
    CAUTION: Correct installation of the coolant expansion tank cap can be obtained by tightening the cap until 3 audible clicks are heard.
