General Procedures: Check

CAUTION: The spilling of hot engine oil is unavoidable during this procedure, care must be taken to prevent scalding.
NOTE:
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
  1. CAUTION: Make sure the engine is warm.

    Start the engine and allow to run for 10 minutes, stop the engine.

  2. Remove the engine cover.

    Refer to: Engine Cover - Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol .

    Remove the engine oil filler cap.

    • Loosen the element cover 4 complete turns to allow engine oil to drain from the filter cover.
    • Allow the engine oil to drain from the oil filter element housing for 2 minutes.

    Remove the engine oil level indicator.

    Using the special tool, drain the oil.

    Special Tool(s):  303-1484

  8. WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.

    Remove the oil filter element housing.

    • Remove and discard oil filter element from oil filter housing.
    • Remove and discard the seal.

    • Install a new O-ring seal and oil filter element.
    • Renew Part: Oil filter and O-ring seal kit Quantity: 1.

    Install the oil filter element cover.

    Torque Specification: 25 Nm 

  12. Fill the engine with the recommended oil to the correct level.

    Refer to: LUBRICANTS, FLUIDS, SEALERS AND ADHESIVES  and CAPACITIES .

    Remove the engine oil filler cap.

  14. Check the engine oil level.
  15. NOTE: Make sure that the component is correctly installed.

    Check the engine oil level.

    • Start the engine and allow to idle for 2 minutes.
    • Check for leaks.
    • Stop the engine.
    • Check the engine oil level.
    • Top up as required.
  18. Install the engine cover.

    Refer to: Engine Cover - Ingenium I4 2.0L Petrol .
