Removal And Installation: Removal

WARNING: Place the vehicle in a well ventilated, quarantined area and arrange ' No Smoking/Petrol Fumes' signs about the vehicle.

All vehicles 

  1. Before working on the fuel system make sure to study the fuel system health and safety section of this manual.

    Refer to: Petrol and Petrol-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions .

  2. Drain the fuel tank.

    Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .

  3. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

    Refer to: Lifting .

    General Equipment:  Two-post lift

  4. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .

  5. Remove the rear driveshaft.

    Refer to: Driveshaft - V6 S/C 3.0L Petrol .

    Refer to: Driveshaft - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Petrol .

    Refer to: Driveshaft - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel .

  6. Remove both the underside areo trims.

  7. Remove both the underside trim panels.

  8. Disconnect the fuel filler pipe.

  9. Remove the heat shield.

  10. Disconnect the underbody fuel supply line.
    WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
    CAUTION: Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

    Vehicles with fuel fired heater 

  11. Disconnect the fuel fired heater pump fuel lines.
    WARNING: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
    CAUTION: Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

  12. Disconnect the fuel fired heater fuel lines to underbody fuel supply line and release from the body clip.
    CAUTION:
    • Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
    • Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.

    All vehicles

    1. Using a suitable stand, support the fuel tank and remove the 4 fuel tank retaining bracket bolts.
    2. Lower the fuel tank to allow access to the fuel pump connections.
    3. Disconnect the fuel pump and breather pipe.
    4. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.

      General Equipment:  Transmission jack

  14. Remove the fuel tank supply line from the fuel tank.
    NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

    Vehicles with fuel fired heater 

  15. Remove the fuel fired heater fuel lines from the fuel tank.

  16. Remove the fuel level sender.
