Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) Pump: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Jaguar XF, 2014 Jaguar XF, and 2013 Jaguar XF. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The ATF pump is an integral part of the transmission. The ATF pump is used to supply hydraulic pressure for the operation of the control valves and clutches, to pass the fluid through the transmission cooler and to lubricate the gears and shafts.
The ZF 8HP70 ATF pump is a double stroke, vane type pump and is located below the transmission input shaft. The pump is driven by a chain drive from a sprocket located on the input shaft. The pump has a delivery rate of 50 cm per revolution. The drive sprocket is driven at engine speed through a splined connection in the torque converter shell.
