Camshafts (G1550152): Removal

NOTE:
  • Tool JLR-303-1565 has been superseded by JLR-303-1600, but can still be used to carry out the procedure detailed below. 
  • Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct.
  • Some illustrations may show the engine removed for clarity.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (General Procedures).

  2. WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.

    Raise and support the vehicle.

  3. Refer to: Timing Chain  (Removal and Installation).
  4. NOTE: Note the orientation of the component prior to removal.

  5. CAUTION:
    • Use an open-ended wrench to hold the camshafts by the hexagon to prevent the camshafts from turning.
    • Note the fitted position of the component prior to removal.

  6. NOTE: Discard the washers.

  7. CAUTION: Loosen each bolt 2 turns at a time until all bolts are removed.

    Remove the special tool.

    Special Tool(s):  JLR-303-1600

  9. NOTE: Note the orientation of the component prior to removal.
