Fuel Level Sensors

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Jaguar XKR, 2011 Jaguar XK, 2010 Jaguar XKR, and 2010 Jaguar XK. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The auxiliary junction box (AJB) sends a separate signal to each of the fuel level sensors. As the float arms of the fuel level sensors move, the resistance across the fuel level sensors changes. Thus the level in the fuel tank determines the value of the signals from the auxiliary junction box (AJB).

From the two signal values the auxiliary junction box (AJB) derives a fuel quantity, which it incorporates into a medium speed controller area network (CAN) message for the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster information.

In addition to using the fuel quantity signal itself, the instrument cluster also transmits it on the high speed controller area network (CAN) for the electronic engine controls system. Refer to ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROLS and Electronic Engine Controls information.
