Description And Operation: Introduction

The DRL (daytime running lamps) and side lamps are incorporated into the outer part of the headlamp assemblies.

For additional information, refer to: Exterior lighting

The same LED (light emitting diodes) are used for the two lamp functions, but they illuminate with a higher intensity for DRL operation than for side lamp operation. On Japan vehicles, the DRL function is inoperative.

The DRL operate automatically when a gear is selected after starting the engine. They then remain on until the ignition is switched off, or side lamps or headlamps are selected on. On USA vehicles, the DRL also go off if the transmission is selected to p or N and the parking brake is applied. While a turn signal indicator is operational, the daytime running lamp on that side of the vehicle either reduces in intensity, to the side lamp level (all except USA), or goes off (USA).
