Service Actions For Slam Condition 1

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2015 Jaguar XKR-S, 2015 Jaguar XKR, 2015 Jaguar XK, 2014 Jaguar XKR-S, and 2014 Jaguar XKR. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

If the convertible top is closing with a slight (but still discernible) noise/slam, follow the steps detailed below:

  1. Open the convertible top to the position shown
    G11524387
  2. Adjust the convertible top locking mechanism rod ends (this procedure must be applied to both  the right-side and left-side rod ends):
    1. Loosen the 10mm A/F lock-nut (see label A, below) by more than one full turn
    2. Remove (and retain) the circlip (see label C, below) with a flat-bladed screwdriver
    3. Lift the mechanism rod end bracket (see label B, below) off the hinge pin (this should not require much force)
    4. Rotate the end bracket one full turn (this should have the effect of making the rod shorter)
    5. Reinstall the mechanism rod end bracket onto the hinge pin
    6. Refit the circlip and re-tighten the lock-nut securely
    7. Repeat this process on the convertible top locking mechanism rod end on opposite side of the vehicle
    G11524586
  3. Check for slamming:
    1. Fully stow the convertible top so that it is in the storage bay (there is no need to close the tonneau panel)
    2. In a single action, deploy the convertible top and check for any slamming when the convertible top reaches the header
    3. If in doubt, repeat the stow and deploy cycle. Any discernible slam is unacceptable
    4. If the convertible top is closing with a heavy noise/slam, follow the steps detailed below:

  4. If slamming is still discernible:
    1. Adjust the convertible top locking mechanism rod ends (see Step  2, above) by a further one turn - making the convertible top locking mechanism rod ends a total of two full-turns shorter on each side of the vehicle
    2. Recheck for slamming. If slamming is rectified, the service action is complete. If slamming is still discernible, proceed to the steps described in Service Actions For Slam Condition 2 (below)
