Front Safety Belts: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2015 Jaguar XKR-S, 2015 Jaguar XKR, 2015 Jaguar XK, 2014 Jaguar XKR-S, and 2014 Jaguar XKR. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The retractor of each front safety belt is attached to the related B pillar mounting bracket. The webbing runs from the retractor through a fixed D loop bracket mounted on the upper B pillar to an anchor point on the sill.

To assist with positioning of the webbing, a guide and retaining strap (sport and luxury seats), or retaining strap (performance seats), is incorporated into each front seat. The retaining straps can be released to allow the webbing to be moved aside for rear seat access/egress.

The retractor for each front safety belt incorporates a load limiter that allows the retractor reel to partially unwind when the load on the webbing exceeds a predetermined limit.

The buckle for each front safety belt is attached to a pretensioner secured to the inboard side of the related front seat frame. Each buckle incorporates a safety belt buckle sensor that provides a status input to the RCM (restraints control module), which uses the input to determine the air bag and pretensioner activation strategies. The RCM also relays the status of the safety belts to the instrument cluster on the high speed CAN (controller area network) bus.
