Interior Mirror With Compass

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2015 Jaguar XKR-S, 2015 Jaguar XKR, 2015 Jaguar XK, 2014 Jaguar XKR-S, and 2014 Jaguar XKR. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The interior (rear view) mirror incorporates a reactive antiglare feature that automatically operates when driving at night. The mirror will darken in proportion to the amount of glare from a following vehicle's headlamps.

On some models the interior mirror also incorporates a compass display to indicate the vehicles direction when driving forward. The compass display may be selected to appear in the upper left-hand, or right-hand side of the mirror.

The compass (if applicable) may require setting and/or calibrating during the PDI. If required to reset the compass, make sure the vehicle is parked in a known compass direction for reference.

NOTE: Make sure the vehicle is not parked near large metal objects, overhead cables or structures (buildings, towers, pylons etc.) when setting or calibrating the interior mirror compass.
Make sure there is sufficient clearance to drive the vehicle in a complete 360 degree turn if there is a requirement to recalibrate the compass. Alternatively, the compass may be calibrated during the road test.

To set the compass:

  1. Switch the ignition on then press the button located beneath the mirror (refer to illustration Interior Mirror with Compass ).
  2. Depending on the length of time the button remains pressed will produce the following results:
    • 0 - 2 seconds, the display is blank.
    • 3 - 5 seconds, will display the current geographical zone number.
    • 6 - 8 seconds, will cause the compass to reset the calibration. The letter 'C' is displayed in the mirror.
    • 9 seconds, will set the side of the mirror ('L' or 'R') the compass is to be displayed.
  3. Check that the displayed compass direction corresponds to the vehicles known reference direction.
  4. If the compass reading is incorrect, press the interior mirror button for 3 - 5 seconds and check the displayed geographic zone number is correct for the region as follows:
    • Press and hold the interior mirror button for 3 - 5 seconds to display the geographic zone number.
    • Refer to illustration, Compass Geographic Zones. Press the button repeatedly until the required geographic zone number is selected for the region.
    • The compass is now set to the new region and will display a steady compass direction after approximately 5 seconds.
  5. If after setting the geographic zone the compass is still displaying an incorrect direction, the compass will require calibrating as follows:
    • Start the engine then press and hold the interior mirror button for 6 - 8 seconds until the icon 'C' appears in the compass display.
    • During the road test either, drive the vehicle on a clear suitable area at less than 5 mph (10 km/h) in a complete 360 degree turn; or drive the vehicle for the course of the road test. Continue driving until a direction of travel appears in the compass display.
    • The interior mirror compass is now calibrated.
  6. If required, press and hold the interior mirror button for more than 9 seconds to set the side of the mirror the compass is to be displayed.
