Electronic Dipstick Service Operation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2015 Jaguar XKR-S, 2015 Jaguar XKR, 2015 Jaguar XK, 2014 Jaguar XKR-S, and 2014 Jaguar XKR. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
To allow for the actual oil level to be verified, a service mode exists to give access to live oil level readings.
In order to have a correct reading, the following conditions must be met:
- The vehicle MUST be parked on a level area of ground. The sensor installation is very sensitive to vehicle tilt in the for-aft direction: 1/2 degree vehicle tilt corresponds to up to 0.5L measurement error.
- The gear selector must be in the PARK position and the BONNET must be OPEN.
- A minimum time of 10 MINUTES
must be allowed to pass after running the engine. This drain down time is to allow the oil to return to the sump.
Use of the eDipstick within this time WILL give an incorrect output.
To access the service mode, the following procedure should be followed:
- Scroll through the trip menu to access the eDipstick display.
- Press the cruise control CANCEL button twice within 2 seconds.
- The instrument pack display will revert to the normal display in the trip computer.
- Scroll through the trip menu to access the eDipstick display once more.
- The graphic now corresponds to the LIVE value.
The service mode allows the average value to be updated with the correct live reading. This is to be used during the PDI procedure, and after an oil change. The procedure described below is used in order to reset the average oil level:
- Access the service mode as described above.
- Press and hold the cruise control CANCEL button for more than 2 seconds.
- Switch the ignition off to allow the ECU to shutdown completely.
- Switch the ignition on, access the eDipstick and verify that the stored value has updated correctly.
