General Procedures: Draining

WARNING: The spilling of hot engine oil is unavoidable during this procedure, care must be taken to prevent scalding.
CAUTION: Correct installation of the oil filler cap can be obtained by tightening the cap until hard stop.
NOTE:
  • Clean the components general area prior to dismantling.
  • Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential information is always correct. 
  1. CAUTION: Make sure the engine is warm.

    Start the engine and allow to run for 10 minutes, stop the engine.

  3. Refer to: Engine Cover - V6 S/C 3.0L Petrol (Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).
  4. NOTE: Allow 10 minutes for the engine oil to drain from the oil filter housing.

  5. NOTE: Remove and discard the O-ring seal.

    Remove and discard the oil filter element.

  7. WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

    Raise and support the vehicle.

  8. Refer to: Air Deflector (Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
  9. CAUTION:
    • Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
    • Allow at least 10 minutes for the engine oil to drain.
    NOTE: Discard the sealing washer.
