Battery Connect

WARNING: Batteries produce explosive gases which may cause personal injury. Do not expose the battery to a naked flame. When charging or working near a battery wear protective clothing and eye protectors. Always provide adequate ventilation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Batteries contain sulfuric acid, avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Shield your eyes when working near the battery to protect against possible contact of the acid solution. In case of contact with the skin or eyes, flush immediately for a minimum of 15 minutes and seek prompt medical attention. If swallowed call a physician immediately. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTION: Make sure all electrical systems are off before connecting the battery negative cable. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the electrical system.
NOTE: Following reconnection of the battery, the engine should be allowed to idle as the stored idle and drive values contained within the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) have been lost. This may cause driveability concern if the following procedure is not carried out.
  1. Connect the battery negative cable.
    • Tighten to 4 Nm. See Figure.
  2. Fit the spare wheel cover.
    • Fit and tighten the spare wheel cover retaining clamp. See Figure.
  3. Fit the luggage compartment floor covering.
  4. Fit the fire extinguisher. See Figure.
  5. Start the engine and allow to idle until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
  6. Switch the engine off.
  7. Restart the engine and allow to idle for approximately two minutes (this will allow the PCM to learn the idle values).
  8. Apply and hold the brake pedal, select drive and allow the engine to idle for a further two minutes.
  9. Drive the vehicle for approximately five miles/eight kilometers of varied driving to enable the PCM to complete its learning strategy.
  10. Reset the audio unit and climate control assembly to original settings to avoid customer complaint.
  11. Reset the door window motors. See DOOR WINDOW MOTOR INITIALIZATION .
      NOTE: After the battery has been disconnected it is necessary to initialize each door window motor separately to operate the "one-touch" up function. See DOOR WINDOW MOTOR INITIALIZATION .
    1. Operate the window control switch until the door window glass is in the fully closed position, continue to operate the window control switch for a further two seconds.
    2. Release the window control switch.
    3. Operate the window control switch in the closed position and continue to operate the window control switch for a further two seconds.
    4. Operate the window control switch until the door window glass is in the fully open position ("one-touch" down).
      5. NOTE: If the door window motor initialization has been completed correctly, when the window control switch is operated, the door window glass should move to the fully closed position ("one-touch" up) automatically.
      NOTE: If the door window glass does not fully close automatically ("one-touch" up), repeat the complete procedure.
    5. Operate the window control switch once to the close position.
    6. Repeat the door window motor initialization for each door window motor.
