Floor Console: Removal

Turn ignition switch to position II and apply footbrake.
Move gear selector to the 'D' position. and release footbrake.
Turn ignition switch to position 'O'
Remove battery cover and disconnect ground cable from battery terminal. Refer to BATTERY GROUND CABLE .
Where fitted, remove center console rear extension. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE EXTENSION .
Remove fascia center veneer panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL .
Using a thin plastic lever, carefully release the rear air distribution control grill tangs at top and sides and remove grill complete with veneer panel and control.

Disconnect cigar lighter and ashtray illumination harness (white) multiplug at RH rear of console.

Slacken and remove the two console rear securing screws.

Remove 'J' gate finisher and veneer panel. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER GATE FINISH PANEL for XJR or SELECTOR LEVER GATE FINISH PANEL for XJ8 and FLOOR CONSOLE FINISH PANEL BRACKET .
Remove fascia center veneer panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL .
Slacken and remove the two center console front securing screws.

Ensuring that harness is clear, pull console rearwards to withdraw front dowels from tunnel locations.

Remove console from vehicle.
Remove console ashtray. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE ASHTRAY .
Remove glovebox and lid. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE STOWAGE COMPARTMENT and FLOOR CONSOLE STOWAGE COMPARTMENT LID .
Slide stud mounting plate off front of console.
