Floor Console: Installation

  1. Fit stud mounting plate to front of console.
  2. Ensure that harness is correctly positioned.
  3. Fit center console ashtray. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE ASHTRAY  .
  4. Fit glovebox and lid to center console. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE STOWAGE COMPARTMENT  and FLOOR CONSOLE STOWAGE COMPARTMENT LID  .
  5. Position console in vehicle, align correctly and push forward to engage front dowels.
  6. Fit and tighten the console front securing screws.
  7. Fit fascia center veneer panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL  .
  8. Fit and tighten the console rear securing screws.
  9. Fit 'J' gate veneer panel and finisher. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER GATE FINISH PANEL for XJR or SELECTOR LEVER GATE FINISH PANEL for XJ8 and FLOOR CONSOLE FINISH PANEL BRACKET  .
  10. Connect cigar lighter and ashtray illumination harness multiplug.
  11. Where applicable, install console rear extension. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE EXTENSION  .
  12. Fit and firmly seat air distribution control grill to rear of console.
  13. Move 'J' gate selector to 'P'.
  14. Connect ground cable to battery terminal and fit battery cover. Refer to BATTERY CONNECT .
