Removal & Installation (XJ8, XJR, XK8 & XKR)

1. Open driver's door, or both doors (if necessary) to allow the side windows to open. Ensure that doors remain open until after battery has been disconnected. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove power steering rack for access. See POWER RACK & PINION article in STEERING. Remove starter motor main terminal nut and disconnect main cable. Remove solenoid terminal nut and disconnect cable.
3. Loosen, but DO NOT remove upper starter motor mounting bolt. Remove lower mounting bolt. See Fig 1. Carefully remove upper mounting bolt and starter motor. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
