Brake Pedal and Bracket, Brake Booster and Brake Master Cylinder: Removal
CAUTION:
Replacement of nuts and bolts: Various thread-locking devices are used on nuts and bolts throughout the vehicle. These devices restrict the number of times a nut or bolt can be used. See THREAD LOCKING DEVICES
for additional information.
CAUTION:
Remove brake fluid spillage immediately from paint work, with clean water.
- Position vehicle on a four-post lift.
- Open engine compartment and fit paint work protection covers to fenders.
- Disconnect battery ground cable (IMPORTANT, refer to BATTERY GROUND CABLE for further information).
- Remove engine compartment rear cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER .
- Reposition the mounting bracket of the cruise control vacuum-valves for access (if installed).
- Remove screws.
- Reposition bracket.
- Disconnect low-level warning connector from master cylinder.
- Disconnect vacuum pipe from brake booster.
- Disconnect pipe.
- Remove and discard seal.
- Position absorbent cloth underneath master cylinder to collect brake fluid spillage.
- Disconnect brake tubes from master cylinder.
- Install plugs to brake tubes and master cylinder ports.
- From driver footwell, disconnect throttle inner cable from pedal.
- Remove grommet.
- Release cable from pedal.
- Disconnect stop-lamp-switch connector.
- Move carpet.
- Disconnect electrical connector.
- From engine compartment, remove throttle cable from pedal housing.
- Release grommet.
- Pull cable from pedal housing.
- Remove pedal housing, brake booster and master cylinder assembly from vehicle.
- From driver footwell, remove nuts.
- Carefully remove assembly.
- Remove and discard gasket from pedal housing.
- Clean components and mating surfaces.
