Lower Control Arm: Removal
- Raise vehicle and support with safety stands. Remove wheel assembly. Place jack under control arm and raise assembly slightly. Disconnect shock absorber lower mount. Disconnect all wiring interfering with arm removal.
- Remove exhaust-to-rear suspension mounting bracket. Remove hub carrier fulcrum shaft securing nut. Remove fulcrum shaft. Reposition drive shaft/hub assembly upwards, and secure with wire or suitable restraint. Loosen and remove shock absorber lower securing nut. Cut and remove harness-to-wishbone tie straps.
- Remove differential strut-to-upper mounting bracket securing bolts. Lower jack to allow removal of control arm pivot bolt. Remove control arm pivot bolt. Remove control arm spacer tube and washers. Remove control arm from vehicle.
- Raise vehicle and support with stands forward of radius arms. Remove wheel assembly. Remove lock nut and drive out hub carrier fulcrum shaft. Install dummy shaft for support. Note location of shims for installation reference. Collect shims and seal retainers.
- Disconnect brake sensor lead from radius arm. Lift bearing carrier, clear of control arm. Keep carrier in position with heavy wire attached to subframe. Separate radius arm from body.
- Remove bolts attaching support plate to subframe and inner fulcrum brackets. See Fig 1. Separate shock absorbers from lower control arm. Drive out pivot pin. Separate inner fulcrum from control arm. Note location of thrust washers for installation reference. Remove control arm and radius arm.
