Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Isuzu i-370, 2007 GMC Canyon, and 2007 Chevrolet Colorado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Ensure number 1 cylinder is at top dead center.

  1. Assemble the cylinder head, if necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble .
  2. Install the dowel pins, cylinder head locator, if necessary.
  3. Position a NEW cylinder head gasket to the engine block.

    IMPORTANT: Ensure all wires, components, etc. are out of the way when installing the cylinder head.
  5. Install the cylinder head.

    NOTE: This component uses torque-to-yield bolts. When servicing this component do not reuse the bolts, New torque-to-yield bolts must be installed. Reusing used torque-to-yield bolts will not provide proper bolt torque and clamp load. Failure to install NEW torque-to-yield bolts may lead to engine damage.
  7. Install NEW cylinder head bolts.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  9. Tighten the NEW cylinder head bolts in the following sequence:

    Tighten: 

    1. Tighten the bolts (1-12) in sequence to 30 N.m (22 lb ft) plus an additional 155 degrees using the J 45059  .
    2. Tighten the (2 Short) end bolts (14-15) to 7 N.m (62 lb in) plus an additional 60 degrees using the J 45059  .
    3. Tighten the (1 Long) end bolt (13) to 7 N.m (62 lb in) plus an additional 120 degrees using the J 45059  .

  10. Install the timing chain and sprockets. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprockets Replacement .
  11. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement (3.7L) .
